In addition to heading his own firm, Abbott Strategies, Abbott is Director of Sustainability at Stratos, one of Canada’s leading sustainability consultancies. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions atDeloitte & Touche, Golder Associates, Coopers & Lybrand, and Altech Environmental Consulting. He prepared a global eco-footprint analysis for Starbucks, created a supply-chain decarbonization strategy for Nike, developed a global sustainability strategy for Earthwatch Institute, and served as a sustainability strategy advisor to British Columbia’s Minister of Water, Air and Land Protection.
An expert on the assessment of corporate environmental and social performance, Abbott wrote the document that became the Canadian Standards Association template for environmental management systems and the model for the global standard from the International Organization for Standardization in Geneva.
He has championed sustainability and the green economy on the leading private and public broadcast networks of Canada as well as extensively in print media, and has keynoted two international conferences at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
Abbott has taught economics, business, and policy analysis at the University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, and Royal Roads University, and conducted intensive sustainability workshops for clients, colleagues, and students. He is on the Advisory Board of the International Institute for Resource Industries and Sustainability Studies, part of the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
A Certified Management Consultant, Abbott holds a doctorate in environmental studies as well as a degree in applied resource geography.
