Internationally known as a champion of religious environmentalism, Roger S. Gottlieb has authored or edited 14 books on sustainability and spirituality, including A Greener Faith: Religious Environmentalism and Our Planet's Future and The Oxford Handbook of Religion and Ecology.
Thomas Berry, one of the world’s leading ecotheologians, described A Greener Faith as offering “superb insight” and as being a “most needed guide.” Bob Edgar, head of the National Council of Churches, praised Gottlieb for painting a “bright picture of the faith community’s capacity for caring for God’s creation,” and Carl Pope, former Executive Director of the Sierra Club, said Gottlieb had created a “seminal book examining the emerging debate on environmental ethics among the world’s great faith traditions.”
Among Gottlieb’s additional titles are This Sacred Earth: Religion, Nature and Environment, Liberating Faith: Religious Voices for Justice, Peace, and Ecological Wisdom, Joining Hands: Politics and Religion Together for Social Change, and A Spirituality of Resistance: Finding a Peaceful Heart and Protecting the Earth. This Sacred Earth is recognized as the first comprehensive collection on the topic.
