President of Sustainable Travel International (STI), he promotes sustainable development and eco-friendly travel by helping travelers and companies serve the environmental, social and economic needs of places they visit. Before co-founding STI, he was President of The World Outdoors, an adventure travel company.
Mullis’ expertise in sustainable tourism development and destination stewardship is internationally recognized. He has assisted travel-related firms ranging from micro-enterprises to Fortune 500 companies, and advised governmental organizations around the world in defining and promoting environmentally friendly tourism. He has appeared before the World Tourism Organization and the Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development, instructed in the U.S. Department of Commerce's Special American Business Training Program for sustainable tourism for Russia and the Far East, and served as judge in the Tourism for Tomorrow Awards. He is on the Advisory Council of Modern Traveler magazine.
Before launching his own organizations, Mullis directed operations at the New England Outdoor Center in Maine, at Roads Less Traveled in Colorado, and worked for the U.S. National Parks Service.
Mullis speaks on environmentally responsible and sustainable vacation and business travel – how the traveler can achieve it by asking smart questions and making responsible choices, and how the provider can contribute to it while also supporting the well being and sustainable development of communities and the conservation of local cultures and environments.
